Our Mission
We are a public organization committed to assisting the citizens of Hamilton County through education, technical assistance and leadership to be stewards of our soil and water resources.

Our Vision
To be a dynamic leader in soil and water conservation, working to achieve the sustainable use of our soil and water resources on a local and regional basis.
 

Technical Assistance

  • Our District is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Hamilton County Earthwork Regulations. 
  • Agriculture land planning and engineering assistance includes grassed waterways, pastureland, cropland, manure management, farm ponds, woodland, wildlife, surface and subsurface drainage. We assist in facilitating all the USDA Cost-Share Farm Programs. Soils data for applicants of the Current Agriculture Use Valuation (CAUV) is also provided from our office. 
  • The District also partners with the Hamilton County Storm Water District in providing the education and outreach components for the National Pollution Discharge and elimination System (NPDES) Phase II water quality program.
  • Units of Government and landowners assistance includes planning for woodland, wildlife, recreation land, as well as drainage, erosion and sediment control and pond management.
  • Technical assistance is also provided through a partnership with the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Education Resources and Programs

All services and many programs are available free of charge.

  • Newsletters - The District publishes four newsletters that target specific interests that are available free to all residents of Hamilton County. (Link to description and subscription page). Homeowners Conservation Guide specifically designed for the Tri-State area are available and can be ordered on the subscription page.
  • Programs - The District sponsors programs on conservation in your backyard, pasture and manure management, equine, forestry, sediment and erosion control, pond management and others. Neighborhood watershed meetings can also be arranged, as can special speakers for community meetings. 
  • Schools and Teacher Workshops - hands-on programs can be brought to the classroom and are available on a wide range of topics. Many teacher workshops are offered throughout the year. Specifically designed programs can also be presented upon request.

    containing the entire set of aerial photos is available for purchase.

  • Soil Survey of Hamilton County - hard copy available free of charge. Digital CD $10.00 picked up or $12.00 mailed
  • Soil nutrient testing kits $12.00/kit if picked up and $14.00 if mailed.
