GO
WITH THE FLOW AND BE A VOLUNTEER
Join the growing list of concerned citizens
who spread awareness about water quality in their local watershed.
Students, scouts, neighborhood organizations, and city
workers are taking action to label storm drains in the communities
of Hamilton County. Storm
drain labeling events are part of public education efforts to
address the issue of non point source pollutants that enter the
storm drains. These
pollutants, which include fertilizers, pesticides, motor oil and pet
wastes, cannot be traced back to a single source.
Many residents are unaware that these pollutants wash down
the drains untreated and flow directly into streams and rivers.
If you, too, would like to spread the clean water message,
and receive great clean water tips, contact Brian Bohl at (513)
772-7645

Test Your Soil Fertility Now
The best way to ensure gardening success is to
provide good soil quality for your plants. The Hamilton County SWCD
now offers soil fertility testing through Michigan State
University. The test results will provide you with a soil amendment
recipe to ensure you get the most out of your plant investment.
Soil testing boxes and instructions
can be obtained from the SWCD office for $10.00/box or $12.00 if
mailed to you. You can stop by the office at 29 Triangle Park
Drive, any weekday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or call the office
at 772-7645. This is a small investment when you consider the cost
of plants and fertilizer. You will also be doing your part in
reducing the use of unnecessary chemicals.
