Conservation Education
Teacher Education Grants
Each winter the Hamilton County SWCD awards two (2) $250.00 grants to teachers who request funding to educate themselves or their students on conservation issues. Some possible projects include Land Lab development, teacher workshop costs, training on conservation issues, classroom projects promoting conservation. Please be creative!
In 2001, Hamilton County lost two enthusiastic and dedicated conservationists. Julius A. Odegard served as the District Conservationist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for 30 years, spending a majority of that time in Hamilton Co. until his retirement in 1973. During those years, Julius was a diligent worker - designing agriculture plans for farmers and also education programs throughout the County.
H. David Diebel served on our Board of Supervisors from 1955 - 1985. He worked vigilantly to promote conservation throughout his life. He also served on the Ohio Reclamation Board of Review for 20 years. He received countless awards over the years including Citizen of the Year Award from Forest Park, Outstanding Contributions from National Wildlife Federation and Soil Conservationist of the Year from the League of Ohio Sportsman. We miss both of these wonderful gentlemen and we certainly can say that the world and our County is a much better place because they graced us with their presence. To honor both of these gentlemen, the District set up two (2) $250.00 Education Grants for Teachers that will be awarded annually. Please contact Education Specialist Gwen Z. Roth or Education Assistant Niki Marengo for further information. Click Here for a PDF of the most recent application. |
