VOLUNTARY MODELING DATA BASE - Anne Lyon
A web-based interactive water quality data entry and display system for sharing of Little Miami Watershed volunteer monitoring data is being developed by a team consisting of the Greenacres Foundation, the Joint Center for Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Analysis (GISSA) at UC, and Little Miami Inc. under a grant from OEPA. The system is being extended to the Mill Creek Watershed through collaboration with the Mill Creek Watershed Council and the Mill Creek Restoration Project's school program.

A User's Guide was distributed to the Committee and a Powerpoint Demonstration of data entry presented. The Project is being pilot tested and is in the final stages of development.

HAMILTON COUNTY STORMWATER UPDATE - Jim Rozelle
The Steering Committee is developing a Phase 2 implementation matrix. Then next step is to develop 3 scenarios for increasing levels of service, a cost of service for each, and to identify alternative sources of funding. Recommendations will be made to the Executive Committee.

STREAMSIDE AND STORM WATER MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP - Brian Bohl
A Streamside and Storm Water Management Workshop will be held on September 12, 2002 at the Mill Race Lodge in Winton Woods County Park. Cosponsors - HCSWD, BCSWD, USEPA. The workshop is intended for elected/public officials and their immediate staff facing compliance with USEPA Phase II NPDES permitting. Cost is $30, registration deadline is August 23, 2002. UPDATES

  • Jurisdictions along Polk Creek that have been impacted by flooding problems are awaiting a Corps of engineers evaluation of the problem.
  • Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District will have its Annual Meeting on Thursday, September, 19, 2002 at the Vinoklet Winery on old Colerain Avenue. The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. and will include election of supervisors, awards and displays. Deadline for reservations is September 6.
  • The Mill Creek Restoration Project (Lori Alberto reporting) will hold a workshop on soil bioengineering for controlling stream bank erosion at the end of October. The workshop will consist of a half day on October 21 for managers and agency directors and a four-day hands-on training for interested parties on October 22 through 25.   • The Mill Creek Watershed Council General Meeting is being held at the Fairfield Community Center on July 26 and will include an update by the COE on the Reevaluation study and a report on the flood early warning system.

The next meeting of the Wet Weather Initiative will be on Thursday, August 22, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. at HCDOES, 250 Wm. Howard Taft Rd. An agenda will be distributed by e-mail before the meeting.
