Learn how rain barrels benefit your yard, your wallet, and our shared local waters! A step-by-step walk-through of the installation process will help get you started. Paid participants will take home a rain barrel and installation kit.

Making & Using Compost Tea Fertilizer

Compost tea is a fertilizer made by steeping finished compost in water, often with added ingredients and aeration. It benefits soil health by expanding beneficial microbes and nutrients, and increasing water holding capacity. You'll learn the basics including what materials you need, and the how to use the finished product to support your growing goals.
Program is free, but registration is requested.

Plant a Pot for Mother's Day!
Saturday, May 9
10-11:30 a.m.

This Mother's Day, celebrate the mothers in your life, including Mother Earth! Participants will decorate a 6" terracotta pot, then plant it with our native beebalm, monarda fistulosa. Beebalm is a pollinator powerhouse with purple pom-pom petals that provide nutritious forage for Ohio's native bees.

Each paid attendee will paint and take home a 6" terracotta pot with potting soil and a plug of native Wild Bergamot, (Monarda fistulosa), as well as care instructions.

​Non-paid tickets are for those accompanying a paid ticketed attendee (e.g., a parent may have one paid ticket, and two non-paid ticketed children). Plus, attendees will have a chance to win a gift card to Benken Garden Center & Florist!

The Hamilton County Conservation District is a legal subdivision of the State of Ohio responsible for the conservation of natural resources within Hamilton County, Ohio. We have a special emphasis on soil and water with a focus on assisting landowners in planning and applying conservation practices on the land. HCCD is dedicated to the sustainable use of our natural resources and to encouraging positive behavioral changes that produce a higher quality of life for our citizens. The District assists all Hamilton County residents, schools and jurisdictions through our free services and dynamic partnerships that continually provide innovative solutions for the challenges of our region.
