​Soil Fertility Testing

The District partners with PennState Extension to provide soil testing services to Hamilton County, Ohio Residents.
Basic fertility testing is $10 per sample, payable directly to PennState Extension.

Soil Testing Instructions:
  • Collect the sample following these "How to Collect a Soil Sample" instructions:
How to Collect a Soil Sample
  • Allow sample to air dry before placing approximately one (1) cup of dry soil in a zip style bag.
  • The zip style bag will need the following information written on it:
    • Name:
    • Sample ID or Field Name:
  • Be sure the Sample ID or Field Name matches the name you put on the corresponding soil test order form.
  • If you are testing samples from more than one area of your property, be sure to label each accordingly on the bag and form (eg. garden, orchard, turf lawn, etc.)
  • ​Mail the soil sample, completed order form, and a check for $10 per test to Penn State at the address listed on the order form.
​As part of this program,  test results generated for a Hamilton County, Ohio Residents will also become available to the District to provide free consultation to the resident. Feel free to contact us with any questions at 513-485-6820 or [email protected].

The Hamilton County Conservation District is a legal subdivision of the State of Ohio responsible for the conservation of natural resources within Hamilton County, Ohio. We have a special emphasis on soil and water with a focus on assisting landowners in planning and applying conservation practices on the land. HCCD is dedicated to the sustainable use of our natural resources and to encouraging positive behavioral changes that produce a higher quality of life for our citizens. The District assists all Hamilton County residents, schools and jurisdictions through our free services and dynamic partnerships that continually provide innovative solutions for the challenges of our region.
