Youth Conservation Board Application Form
8/2025 - 6/2026 Service Year

    Application period open from April 1 - May 1, 2025

    ​The Youth Conservation Board is a new program designed for high school students to engage in conservation service and leadership through the Hamilton County Conservation District (HCCD). Members will help support the mission of HCCD by  fostering relationships among stakeholders & partners and implementing innovative projects. This program aims to provide students with leadership skills for the future in the fields of natural resources and conservation. HCCD also wishes to let young voices in our community be heard by conservation professionals and county officials.

    ​As a part of the Youth Conservation Board, students will work together to design and implement a project during the service year (August-June). Students will receive limited funding support as well as mentorship from HCCD to fully complete their project. Students are expected to create and submit proposals and presentations as part of their project, updating HCCD Board and staff on their progress. A final presentation will be given to the HCCD Board as well as the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).

    Students will also be given the opportunity to help HCCD at public events by sharing their initiatives with the public through tabling. Other events such as stream clean-ups, electrofishing, and live staking may be options as well.
    Eligibility Criteria:
    • Hamilton County high school students between 9th-12th grade
    • Access to the internet, reliable form of communication
    • Access to reliable transportation
    • Commitment to the entirety of the service year (August – June)

    ​Acceptance letters will be sent via email in May 2025. Specific details for the service year will be announced at the same time. The first meeting will be Saturday, August 30, 2025. Please contact [email protected] with questions. 

    ​Please attach a typed essay between 400-500 words about your interest and knowledge of environmental issues. Include any community actions you may be inspired to take, and any experience you already have with conservation in your community.

    You may optionally submit one letter of recommendation from an unrelated adult, such as a teacher, coach, or supervisor, that can speak on your interest in conservation, community service, and/or your ability to work in a team environment. Letters may be uploaded, emailed to [email protected], or mailed to 2702 E. Kemper Rd., Sharonville, OH 45241.

The Hamilton County Conservation District is a legal subdivision of the State of Ohio responsible for the conservation of natural resources within Hamilton County, Ohio. We have a special emphasis on soil and water with a focus on assisting landowners in planning and applying conservation practices on the land. HCCD is dedicated to the sustainable use of our natural resources and to encouraging positive behavioral changes that produce a higher quality of life for our citizens. The District assists all Hamilton County residents, schools and jurisdictions through our free services and dynamic partnerships that continually provide innovative solutions for the challenges of our region.
