Youth Conservation Board

What is the Youth Conservation Board?

Students will be notified of their acceptance during the week of May 19th-23rd. 
 The Hamilton County Conservation District is forming its *NEW* Youth Conservation Board, giving a voice to Hamilton County high school students who are passionate about conservation leadership in their community. Accepted students will be expected to adhere by the Youth Board bylaws and may be elected to Youth Board roles such as Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Youth Board will work together to design and implement a conservation project with mentorship and funding from HCCD. Students will meet once a month to discuss project details and any additional District events they play a role in. 

Service Year

August 2025 - June 2026
The first meeting will take place on August 30, 2025.

Application Qualifications

  • Hamilton County high school students between 9th-12th grade
  • Access to the internet, reliable form of communication
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Commitment to the entirety of the service year (August – June)

Responsibilities of Youth Board Members

Accepted members will be expected to adhere to the following expectations:
  • Commit to meeting one Saturday a month during the service year for approximately 2.5 hours (9:30am-12:00pm)*
  • Participate in development and implementation of the Youth Board conservation project that may require work outside of regular meeting times
  • Participate in project-related presentations to HCCD's Board of Supervisors as well as a final presentation to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC)
  • Aid in the creation of an annual report each service year that will be presented to the HCCD Board and the BOCC
  • Optionally assist with HCCD public events, such as tabling, tree sale pick-ups, stream cleanups, etc... 
  • If elected to a role such as Chairperson, Secretary, etc., take on additional responsibilities such as leading meetings, recording meeting minutes, and keeping track of the project budget

​*members will be allowed to miss two meetings a year due to extenuating circumstances or prior commitments to maintain Youth Board membership. A schedule will be available at the beginning of each service year with all meeting dates, times, and potential different meeting locations.

The Youth Conservation Board will meet one Saturday per month, along with select other special meeting dates. The remaining '25-'26 service year dates will be announced after board members have been selected.

The Hamilton County Conservation District is a legal subdivision of the State of Ohio responsible for the conservation of natural resources within Hamilton County, Ohio. We have a special emphasis on soil and water with a focus on assisting landowners in planning and applying conservation practices on the land. HCCD is dedicated to the sustainable use of our natural resources and to encouraging positive behavioral changes that produce a higher quality of life for our citizens. The District assists all Hamilton County residents, schools and jurisdictions through our free services and dynamic partnerships that continually provide innovative solutions for the challenges of our region.
