Mill Creek Live-Stake Planting

Live-Stake Planting on the Mill Creek

The April 4th, Live Stake Planting event on the Mill Creek has been cancelled, with hopes to reschedule. Please check  back for updates.
April 4, 2020
10 am - 2 pm

Starting Point: Twin Creek Preserve (12033 Best Pl., Sharonville, OH)
Ending Point: Evendale Commons on Reading Road

During this four hour event we will be installing live-stakes (willow cuttings). The live stakes will be planted into the eroded banks of the Mill Creek. Planting will be done from within the stream channel.  There are opportunities to plant from canoes or to access the banks by foot.

Live stakes are planted using a stake, similar to a piece of rebar, and mallet to create pilot holes that live-stakes can be placed in. Pilot holes are created at a 90 degree angel to the ground. Live-stakes are inserted pointy end down, so that 1/2 to 2/3 of the live-stake is planted in soil.
