  Soil Your Undies

Soil Your Undies Challenge!

The Soil Your Undies Challenge was started by the USDA to encourage people to test their soil health. The challenge works like this:

Ready to Soil Your Undies?

Returns Spring 2025

Coming April 2025, we will have everything you need to take the challenge. While you can supply your own 100% cotton underwear (it MUST be 100% cotton) and flag to mark the spot where you plant them, we will also have free supplies available for you, your family, your farm, your garden club, or your school,  including:
One sign to mark where you plant your undies

Tell the World You Soiled Your Undies

Don't forget to share your before and after photos! And when you do, tag the Hamilton County Conservation District with the hashtag #HCCDsoilyourundieschallenge
You are also encouraged to fill out these short forms (it takes <2 minutes) so that we can add your soiled undies to the map. Explore the map to see who else has taken the challenge. You might be surprised to see what community partners soiled their undies and what stories their soil has to tell.

Wait, What if my Undies Aren't Very Soiled?

The more degraded your undies are, the healthier your soil is. But if you dig them up and they are mostly in one piece, don't worry! Remember, the point of this challenge is to try your hand at soil testing. What your undies look like once uncovered can tell you a lot about your soil health but it's only the beginning. The District has tips and resources to help you improve your soil fertility.
